Purtell, William F. Jr. TROY William F. Purtell Jr., 62, of Troy, passed into eternal life Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Troy, Bill was the son of the late William F. and Mary T. Strenzwilk Purtell Sr. Bill graduated from Troy High School and Hudson Valley Community College, both in Troy. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1976. Bill worked for many years at the Watervliet Arsenal as a machinist. He also worked part-time at the South End Tavern as a bartender. He enjoyed all types of music and working on crossword puzzles. Bill was a member of the Lansingburgh Veteran's Club in Troy. Bill is survived by his daughter, Mary Kasya Purtell of Troy and his granddaughter, Aleksandra. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Rosemary (Paul) Ostiguy of Cohoes, Patricia (the late William) Kuentzel of Troy, James C. (Sheryl) Purtell of East Greenbush, Mary Ellen (Gerald) O'Bryan of Troy, Joseph Purtell of Troy and Eileen (Greg) Holoduek of Troy. Bill was the nephew of Eileen Gallagher of Albany and Jack and Emily Skinkle of Albany. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews; and cousins. The funeral service for Bill will be held on Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third St., Troy and at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3-7 p.m. Interment will be held in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N.Y. Contributions in Bill's memory may be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer.
