I was with Jimmy a couple of days before he died of a malignant brain tumor,an astroscytoma. I cannot recall the date. I remember that his family had him in a hospital bed in the living room and he was surrounded by loving friends who apparently visited him throughout his days and nights. He was clearly much loved.
He was a wonderful guy and I enjoyed him so much in drama class.

Thank you Sallie for letting us know what happened to Jimmy. I have often thought of him and wondered what could have happened to him. He was such a special friend and sadly we lost touch after high school. We had wonderful times riding around in his VW, cruising and going out to the haunted house out on Speedway. He was always so cheerful and a friend to all...

Jimmy was one of my closest friends growing up. He was my escort to the Cotillion our senior year and I remember his Father allowed him to use the Rolls and he was quite happy not to have the Karman Ghia that night.

We were partners on the debate team our freshman year at the U/A. Besides having a great sense of humor he was also exceptionally bright.

We found ourselves in a wee bit of trouble the summer of 1967 when we got "detained" together after trying to purchase booze at a liquor store on Tanque Verde that was notorious for selling to minors. We managed to come away from Mother Higgins virtually unscathed.

The last time I saw Jimmy was in 1975 just before moving to California for 3 years while my ex attended law school. He had come over to spend time playing with my children, which he often did. I was still living in California when I was informed of his passing which has a left a void in my life. He was a wonderful person and an incredibly loyal friend.

Larry Sakin

Hi, this is Jim's little brother Larry. I wanted to update information on Jim for those who are interested.

Jim passed away September 3, 1977 of multiple myeloma. He was orignally diagnosed with an astrocytoma brain tumor in April of 1976. This tumor was surgically removed a month later. Sadly, the tumor grew back from the medula, proceeded down his spine and into his vital organs by the end of 1976.

In 1974, Jim was working on his Masters in Speech and doing a bit of student teaching at USC Riverside when he decided to pursue a dream of being an artist and moved to New York City. He assisted in designing costumes for a few off-off Broadway shows and was taking classes in set design and drawing.

Although his final year was extremely painful, he faced his illness with a positive attitude and often comforted his friends when they were unable to handle his ordeal. He was much beloved by many people in Tucson and New York.
