Kerry Kettenbach

Kerry Louise Kettenbach (1/1951 - 11/2013) Kerry Louise Kettenbach was born in Berkley, California on January 19th, a crisp Friday in 1951 to Edward and Joyce Kettenbach. She attended Jefferson Park Elementary, later transferring to Fort Lowell Elementary, followed by Townsend Junior High, Palo Verde High School, Bradford College, and later graduating from Scripps College. Kerry nurtured her love of science by volunteering at Tucson Medical Center as a phlebotomist during high school. Inspired by her father, a local surgeon, Kerry received her degree in nursing from Oregon Health Science University. Kerry spent many happy years living in Portland, Oregon, enjoying both the lush greenery and cool weather. Kerry returned to Arizona to help raise her two nieces, Mia and Madeline Marquez, whom she nurtured and adored. Many Tucson families eagerly awaited her famous Christmas cookies. Each year she tirelessly baked for weeks testing different recipes to get the perfect combination of cookies and treats. Her baking was legendary and will be remembered by anyone lucky enough to have tasted the delicacies she created. Kerry had a great passion for learning and was smart, informed, and wise, but her humility and grace meant only those closest to her knew of her fierce wit. Anyone who came in contact with her would quickly learn of her great compassion and curiosity. She quietly tended to all of the people in her life, whether it was teaching a friend how to sew, or making soup for a sick loved one. She was immensely talented, and she always used her talents to help those around her. She will always be remembered for her love and appreciation of life's beauty - the color pink, the sound of classical music, and the smell of freshly cut roses, to name just a few. Her loss will be felt everyday by those who loved her most. Kerry was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome two years ago. She was greatly helped by Dr. Ravitharan Krishnadasan; Sandy Kurtin, R.N.; Dr. Andrew Yeagar; Candy Preble, R.N.; and the marvelous nurses at Fasseas Cancer Clinic and UMC 3 Northwest. Kerry is survived by her brother, Michael and his wife Francis (Boston, MA); her sister, Lauren (Tucson, AZ); her nieces, Cara (Boston, MA); Mia (Beverly Hills, CA); Madeline (Washington D.C.); and nephews, Michael (Boston, MA); and Edward (Boston, MA). At Kerry's request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations payable to the University of Arizona Foundation/UA Cancer Center and mail to 1515 N. Campbell Ave., P.O.
