Tell us a bit about what's happened since THS:

I received a BS in microbiology from the U of A, and then entered medical school at Tulane University, where I was graduated in 1969. I served my military service and postgraduate training in Internal Medicine through the United States Public Health Service in San Francisco. Although my original plans were to return to Tucson to practice, its rapid growth between my infrequent visits showed me "I couldn't go home again," and in 1972 I moved to Soldotna, Alaska to begin practice. Two years later I moved to Fairbanks where I practiced for over 40 years. I also served as a brief stint as a commercial pilot before concluding it was an awful way to make a living.
I met my wife, beth Kohnen, in Fairbanks in 1992 after she had finished a two year tour as a physician in Bethel, Alaska. She joined me as my medical partner. We adopted our daughter in 1999, and she is currently (2021) in graduate school for clinical psychology.
In 2014 we moved to the Island of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands to continue practice in an underserved area in the remote Pacific. As of 2021 we are still here, working full time.
We still have a cabin on a remote homestead in Alaska which is only accessible by air. When I return to visit Fairbanks, that is where I go.
Tucson was the start of my life living on the frontier, and has formed my life ever since. As modern civilization has encroached on more and more of America, we have moved farther and farther away. The Tucson of the early 60's is still a big part of who I am.
