Steve Uhler was in Mr. Monk's 6th grade class at Lizzie Brown with me, Margie Fisher, John Manning, Drew Salter, Debbie Lucas, Steve Custenborder and Linda Hotchkiss, among others. (I always thought Rick Hibner was also in that class, but guess I didn't get the pleasure of really knowing the Hibs until later). Steve Uhler was always science-oriented. Very diligent, very brilliant. He moved to Puyallup, WA in the mid-90s and built a successful veterinary practice--just about the time Caroline and I moved to DC. He lived across the street from my future sister-in-law, Susan McClements, and was one of the first people I met when my family first moved to Tucson. Sorry to hear of his passing. Rest in peace, Dr. Uhler.
Steve and I were both army brats. He being born in Japan and me being on the island of Saipan when I was six months old. Our dad's carpooled from Tucson to Ft Huachuca from 1957 until they retired and the colonels remained friends, sometimes standing retreat in dad's front yard. Steve was a different kind of guy who could get my attention by just saying my name. Never have been able to figure it out but will miss it. My condolences to his friends and loved ones.
Maryanne called me early afternoon Sun and told me he had a very short time. Courtney (daughter) called me 7pm Sun to say my friend had left us. Memorial in Puyallup 1pm Fri (11/20). Linda and I will be there with all your thoughts and prayers for the family. Brings our own mortality to close to home.
Steve went to Tanque Verde Elementary in 7th & 8th grade with myself & all of 11 others. We were the Famous 13! We had many a good time. I remember Steve took me to a Halloween costume party in 7th grade. It was the first time I ever wore high heels. I went as a "20's Flapper" and sure that I did not manage well in my mothers high heels and my grandmothers real beaded flapper gown. Steve was so sweet & helped me maneuver most of the night. I had so hoped he would be well enough to attend next Octobers 50th, but we will raise a glass in his honor & cherish the memory of what a great guy he was.

Sandi (Harrington) and i recently reminisced about Steve. Steve was my 6th -grade and then Sandi's junior-high "boyfriend." Steve was always gracious and personable and always had a smile on his face. I was sorry to learn of his death.
I enjoyed reading about Terry MacDonald's Indian Ridge/Lizzie Brown Elementary School memories. We all took the bus together that we caught along Indian Ridge Drive and Indian Ruins Road. I think Terry was correct that Rick Hibner did attend Lizzie Brown with us but I think he lived in a different subdivision--so he "missed" our school-bus time together.
I remember Steve as being kind and diligent. He was very bright and had a easy way about him. He will be missed. My sympathies to the family.
I know Rick Hibner was at Lizzie Brown in 4th grade. We had Miss Petty together. I think he moved to a different school after that. I had Easley for 5th and Davis for 6th, although I was not there for Jan, Feb or March of any of those years as I was touring with the Tucson Boys Chorus. Indian Ridge was a happening place in those days.

Dr. Stephen P. Uhler, husband, father, grandfather, veterinarian, and humble servant of Christ Jesus, died on November 15, 2015 at his home in Puyallup, WA surrounded by his wife and children. He was 67 years old.
Dr. Uhler was known to many as a humble Christian servant, and compassionate and skilled veterinarian, often giving his time, energy and passion in service to others.
Born on April 3, 1948, on an Army base in Yokohama, Japan. He grew up in Tucson, AZ, attended veterinary school at Washington State University, and practiced medicine in Nevada, Arizona, and Washington (Aberdeen and Sumner).
Dr. Uhler was preceded in death by his parents, LTC (R) David M. Uhler I and Frances Broadbent Uhler, as well as his brother and best friend, David M. Uhler II.
Dr. Uhler will be dearly missed and is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Rhonda Payne Uhler, his four children: Justin P. Uhler (Jessica) of Tacoma, WA, Adam T. Uhler (Catherine) of Buckley, WA, Whitney D. Cox (nee Uhler) (Matthew) of Lynnwood, WA, and Hillary F. Uhler-Powell of Sumner, WA; 10 grandchildren, whom he greatly loved and cherished; his two sisters, Marian DesRoches (Robert) of Medical Lake, WA, Judy Mahaffey (Rodney) of College Place, WA, and his sister-in-law, Terri Uhler of Clarksville, TN; his in-laws, William and Velta Payne of Surprise, AZ, and his brother-in-law, Timothy S. Payne (Stephanie), as well as numerous, much loved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org).
Memorial Services to be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Station House 726, 427 North Meridian, Puyallup, WA 98371. Reception to follow.
