In Memory

Mark Jonathan Long

Mark Jonathan Long

Mark was born in 1964 in Hollywood, CA and made his living as a popular singer/songwriter in Arizona.  He passed away on April 28, 2023.  He knew he wanted to perform from his Jr. High days when he sang at his first talent show.  Mark was a very talented and musically versatile creative soul who will be missed immensely by his family, his many friends and fans of his music.  Mark would have turned 59 this June.  He leaves his loving wife, a step-daughter, two brothers and one sister who mourn his passing, but look forward to the blessed hope of seeing him again one day in glory.  Mark died from complications caused by a heart attack.

Thanks for posting this, Mark lived one street away from a lot of us in the Longview Lake subdivision.  We moved in and out of each other's homes as kids, met each other parents and just got into whatever trouble we could get into.  We all attended Fulton Elementary, then Skelly Jr. High and finally Nathan Hale High School.  Mark was talented dude, loved to play Rock and played about 5 instruments.  His band (Mark Long Band) is going to have a celebration of life tribute in Scottsdale, Arizona in June, everyone is welcome you can find the band's Facebook page using the name of the band.

Mark Long was truly the best example of a patient, tolerant, loving, compassionate, and caring human being.  When I was learning to play the violin @ Skelly, he was of great inspiration to me.  Seeing his talent on the keyboards & other instuments influenced me to be a better musician, and to also learn other instruments.  As the years have passed, I always wondered what happened to him, and sure do wish I could have caught up with him to give him a hug, and to thank Mark for inspiring me.  I know that one day we must all pass, but @ only 59 years young, I am sure Mark was still more than willing, and ready to keep the music alive.  I wish to extend my utmost somber condolescenes to his family.  Mark was a unique soul, and his star will surely shine on.... forever!

It's been 42 years since Mark performed for our 1982 baccalaureate my favorite Elton John compositiion. It was a touching send off. I lost touch but I'm sure Mark helped a lot of people realize they're free to fly. He sure helped me that spring.

Mark was in a couple of my classes at Hale that I always looked forward to. I don't think he knew I had a crush on him, but he was always very nice. Condolences to his family and friends.

Mark was a true gentleman. We grew up together from Kindergarten through high school. We spent a lot of time together in talent shows and I was always in awe of his talent. I remember when we were both chosen for the  Most Talented award and I felt so unworthy, especially compared to him. He was so humble and kind. He told me he was honored to be chosen with me! The world needs more Marks.
