Here is the text from Walter's obit. A picture was included as well.

Walter E Schwartz, a senior mechanical engineering student at the University of Tulsa who learned he had cancer last year, died Wednesday. He was 21.

Memorial Services are set for 2pm Saturday at New Haven United Methodist Church. Ninde Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Schwartz, a native Tulsa and graduate of Memorial School, learned he had a colon tumor in January 1988.  He was told by doctors that the disease was too advance to cure.

“Walter reacted to that very calmly,” said his father, Robert Schwartz. “He had a tremendous inner peace about it.”

“At the same time (he had) a tremendous determination that he was going to get everything he could out of life,” said the elder Schwartz.

He continue to attend classes at TU and maintained a 3.4 grade point average. He had one semester left. Two weeks ago he earned the Outstanding Student in Mechanical Engineering award from TU faculty and students.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Stella Schwartz; a sister, Karola, all of Tulsa; his maternal grandfather, Earl Park Sr. of Skiatook; and paternal grandparents Dr. and Mrs. E.J. Schwartz of Springfield, MO.  Contributions may be made to a memorial fund at TU.

Thank you for posting that, Paul. I remember reading this so many years ago. I first knew Walter at Carnegie, then later Memorial. He was extremely intelligent and kind.
