Andy Wharton

Andy Ray Wharton, Sr., age 71, of Tuscaloosa, AL passed away December 18, 2022 at his residence. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Cary Wharton. Survivors include his wife, Susan Morrow Wharton; son, Andy Wharton, Jr and his wife, Virginia Jordan Wharton of Birmingham, AL; brother, Van Wharton of Boston, MA; sister, Dusty Walton of Mobile, AL; sister-in-law, Patricia Tegtman (William) of Sarasota, FL and brother-in-law, John Robert Morrow (Luann Toone Morrow) of Richmond, VA. Andy was born May 18, 1951 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Ray Wharton and Annie Merle Leonard Wharton. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army National Guard. Andy was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved being on the water. Orange Beach, Alabama was his favorite place to be whether it was sitting by the pool, offshore fishing on his boat, or catching up with friends over a burger at Pirates Cove. Being a graduate of the University of Alabama, he was always looking to talk Alabama Football for hours on end to anyone who was willing to listen. Andy was the proud owner of Adventure Chevrolet for 30 years; his family was from Millport and Kennedy and he felt like it was almost coming home. He did his best to positively contribute to Pickens County and he was the first business in the City of Reform to sponsor Toys for Tots. He was also active in the community in other ways. He donated a car to the driver’s education program, and he always bought whatever children were selling, including burnt cookies from Kindergartners. In retirement, he enjoyed long car rides and watching TV with the family dog, Marlin. But most of all his biggest love in life was his family. His wife Susan and son Andy, Jr. were the center of his world, and he leaves behind a memory of laughter, good times, and happiness of time spent together. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
