Kenneth Windham

Kenneth Ferrel Windham, age 73, of Cottondale, Alabama, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with Brother Herbert Thomas officiating the service. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Kenny is preceded in death by his father, Louis Ferrel Windham. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Esther Hubbard Windham, his daughter, Ferra Windham Cox, and his son, Forrest Lee Windham (Jamie). He is also survived by his mother, Annie Laurie Windham, sisters, Karen Wedgworth (Donnie), and Marilyn Windham, his grandson, Alden Windham, and his granddaughters, Campbell Cox, Adler Kate Windham, Ava Windham and Carson Cox. Kenny graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1969 and after serving in The Vietnam War with The United States Army he returned home to graduate from Livingston University in 1975. He retired from B.F. Goodrich in Tuscaloosa. He was a member of Circlewood Baptist Church. He loved all of his family greatly, immediate and extended. He lived the last 48 years of his life as a selfless father and proudly referred to his children often as “my girl” and “my boy” when speaking of them. He went to great lengths to provide his children with opportunities to be successful in life and ensured that he set the example for them both to develop a love for their country, to be responsible for their own lives, to make decisions knowing that we all answer to God, to give of themselves when they could and most importantly, to do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Kenny was a proud granddaddy with a very large soft spot for his 5 grandchildren. He found all of his grandchildren very entertaining and together they spent an endless amount of time laughing with and at one another. He found great pleasure and pride in supporting each of his grandchildren through all of their many interests, but he especially enjoyed spending many days, evenings and weekends sitting behind home plate beside his wife watching baseball and softball just as he did while watching his son play baseball years before. He had a great love for the outdoors and could often be found hunting, fishing or working “in the woods” where he enjoyed spending time alone, with his grandson, other family members and some of his closest friends. Kenny was a modest, kind, Christian man, did not want any attention or acknowledgment, and lived life simply. He was a good man who was always available to help family, friends or even a stranger in need. He believed and taught his children and grandchildren “to always do the right thing and never have any worries” and that is exactly how he lived every single day of his life. He will be greatly missed by the many people who had the opportunity to know and love him. The family wishes to recognize the following Honorary Pallbearers and Special Friends, Jeff and Molly Floyd, Kim Hubbard Jones, Judsen Jones, Evan and JJ Wedgworth, Ivey and Laurie Beth Gilmore, Keith Duncan, Scott Windham, Gary Stone, Terry Holland, Darrel Dennis, Don Pennington, Wayne Weakley, David Nix, Sr., Lucie King and Dr. Scott Fulgham. Family would also like to give specials thanks to the American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that donations be made to support the youth and conservation programs of the Alabama Wildlife Foundation through their website, www.alabamawildlife.org
