ELROD | Donald Acton, age 54, of Elrod, died May 24, 2007, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. His father, Grady L. Acton of Tuscaloosa, and father-in-law, Silas D. Payne of Columbus, Miss., and his grandparents, Chester L. and Bertha Acton and Mack A. and Eula R. Cheatwood of Blount County, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn P. Acton; daughters, Rebecca (Brandy) Gibbs and Dakota S. Acton; son, Donald L. Acton, Jr. of Holt; son-in-law, Hugh Gibbs; nephew, SSgt. Justin S. Anderson, USAF of Sumter, S.C.; niece, Ashley L. Lowery; sister, Sandra A. Hayes of Tuscaloosa; sister-in-law, Sherry L. Anderson of Oakdale, Wis.; brothers, Gary W. Acton, Michael D. Acton, Roger A. Acton, all of Tuscaloosa; brother-in-law, Jeffrey S. Anderson; mother, Jeraldine (Jeri) Acton of Tuscaloosa; mother-inlaw, Barbara R. Payne of Elrod; and grandchildren, Tyler Gibbs and Kayleigh Acton. He was a local business owner for over 30 years in the Northport Community, a member of the Valley Buck Master Hunting Club in Hale County and also the Sandy Creek Hunting Club in Akron. Donald was a man who was a friend and good Samaritan to anyone he met. He loved his family and friends as they loved him. His laughter and his adventure for life will be sadly missed. Pallbearers will be Kelly W. Dogan of Tuscaloosa, Danny R. Smith of Tuscaloosa, SSgt. Justin S. Anderson, USAF of Sumter, S.C., Randy O. Lee of Hale Co., Michael Moore of Birmingham, Jeffrey J. Todd of Tuscaloosa and Billy W. Frazier of Northport. Honorary pallbearers are employees of Prestige Pools, Inc in Northport and South Central Pools in Birmingham.
