FAIRHOPE John Myron "Johnny" Boteler of Fairhope, born August 29, 1952, in Tuscaloosa, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at Providence Hospital in Mobile at the age of 59. Memorial services will be 12 noon Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at First United Methodist Church in Fairhope with Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home of Fairhope directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dean Roberts Boteler; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Boteler of Holt and Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Roberts of Tuscaloosa.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Parkhouse Boteler of Fairhope; daughters, Stephanie Jones (Terry) of Fairhope and Allyson Dyas of Destin, Fla.; sister, Susan Caples (Bruce) of Tuscaloosa; brother, James Knox Boteler, Jr. of Mobile; father, James Knox Boteler, Sr. of Tuscaloosa; and grandchildren, Geoffrey and Griffin Brooks of Fairhope and Nicholas Dyas of Destin, Fla.
John was an active member of Fairhope United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and a greeter. He was the owner and operator of Boteler Building Company and had a God-given talent to make, model, or repair just about anything one can imagine. He was highly skilled in his creative talents and bestowed many wonderful and miraculous gifts for his beloved family and customers. He was an avid Crimson Tide supporter and loved to talk "Tide Talk" with his grandsons, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was a 1970 graduate of Tuscaloosa High School. He played baseball at the University of Alabama for two years; he was a graduate of Marion Institute where he played football and baseball and was voted Most Valuable Athlete. He touched so many lives with his wonderful and constant sense of humor. He loved to laugh and make other people laugh and feel good about themselves. He was extremely generous in so many ways and always thought of others before himself. He adored his family and loved his friends deeply. There are no words for how much he will be missed.
Pallbearers will be nephews James Knox Boteler, III of Mobile, Jay Herndon of Atlanta, Ga., and Rob Herndon of Birmingham; brother-in-law Robin Parkhouse of Orlando, Fla.; and cousins Jack Roberts, Wayne Boteler, and Joe Boteler, all of Tuscaloosa, and Dick Robie of Lake Jackson, Texas.
