
TUSCALOOSA - Wallace Barton "Bart" Avery, age 65, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed from earth to his heavenly home on May 25, 2017 after a short illness at Princeton Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today, May 26, 2017, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mike Griffin and Rev. Don Springer officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Preceded in death were his parents, David Ward and Irene Barton Avery; his grandparents, David Wallace and Emma Jane Avery of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Chester P. and Lela Park Barton of Ralph, Ala.; and great-nephew, Charles Logan Patrick of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
He is survived by his brother, David Ward Avery, Jr. (Carolyn); sister, Ann Avery Brown (Jimmy Dean) of Tuscaloosa, Ala; nephew, James Dean Brown, II (Denise) of Lewisville, N.C.; nieces, Rachael Brown Williams (Philip), Dr. Catherine Avery Skinner (Shannon), Jennifer Avery Patrick (Jason) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Dr. Rebecca Avery Reamey (Nathan) of Vestavia, Ala.; and eleven great-nieces and nephews (one is already in Heaven).
Bart was born and grew up in Tuscaloosa graduating from Tuscaloosa High School in 1970 and University of Montevallo in 1975. He enjoyed membership in the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity while a student at Montevallo.
His career was in the trucking industry as terminal manager and sales beginning in Huntsville, Ala., then Little Rock, Ark., New Orleans, La. and Mobile, Ala. Later he worked in insurance in Alabama.
He loved sports and played basketball, church league softball and with his cousins in the backyard. He was an avid Alabama sports fan. He was a member of the Sertoma Service Club in Tuscaloosa.
He attended Grants Creek Baptist Church until his later years after growing up as a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Avery, Dr. Dan Avery, Ernest Avery, Bob Bamberg, Bill Barton, D.D. Barton, Mark Norris, Tommy Carver, Larry McCombs and David Bamberg.
Honorary Pallbearers are physicians and nursing personnel of Princeton Hospital CICU and MICU in Birmingham and DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.
