July 12, 1952—December 25, 2014
Charlotte Echols Carlisle Michaud, 62, passed away peacefully in her home Thursday night, December 25, 2014, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Mrs. Michaud was born in Tuscaloosa, AL, where she grew up as the middle child to Sonny and Martha Echols. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, a Corolla beauty, and a member of the Crimson Girls. After teaching a few years as a special education teacher, Charlotte married and had two children. After becoming a resident of Mountain Brook she was actively involved in charities and organizations like the Birmingham Zoo Gala and the Worth Collection and was an avid fan of Alabama football. She later began teaching again as a special education teacher, first at Mountain Brook High School and then at Mountain Brook Junior High School. Although she was diagnosed with ALS in early 2005, the disease did not hamper her zest for life. Alongside her husband and caretaker Bernard Michaud she fought her disease bravely and her love for God, life and people only became stronger. Charlotte’s indomitable spirit and strong faith in Jesus Christ inspired many. She will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her mother, Martha Kennedy Echols. Survivors include her husband of 14 years, Bernard Michaud; daughter Courtney Carlisle; son Maury Carlisle (Nikki Carlisle); grandson Salem Carlisle; stepson Marc-Ross Michaud; father Frank “Sonny” Echols; brother Don Echols; sister Julie Duffee (Steve Duffee); several nieces; father-in-law Dr. Marc Michaud (Louisa Michaud); sister-in-law Caroline Michaud; brother-in-law Pierre Michaud (Kelly Michaud); aunt-in-law Chantale Michaud.
A visitation will be held Sunday December 28, 2014 at 2:30 pm with a memorial service following at 3:30 pm at the Church of the Highlands Chapel. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the ALS TDI Foundation.
