John Duane Cross went to be with the Lord on November 8, 2022, at the age of 76. He was surrounded by family at his time of passing.
He was born Oct 15, 1946, in Tyler, Texas to Isaac Newton and Mary Elizabeth Cross. John graduated from John Tyler High School and attended TJC. He enlisted in the Air Force from 1966-1970 and served a 1-year deployment in Vietnam. After the Air Force, he worked for the US Postal Service for 26 years, and at his time of retirement was the Director of Finance.
John was a friend to all he met, and if you were lucky enough to know him you were instantly loved by him. He was kind with a large heart that cared for all of those that he knew. He spent most of his life on the lake and was an avid fisherman. His family, friends, and four-legged companion Coco were areas of his life he found the most joy in. John Cross was affectionately known by his grandchildren as "Pepaw." He enjoyed every minute of his time with them whether on fishing trips, boat and golf cart rides, making them pancakes, or playing games and spending time at holiday gatherings. They all loved him with their entirety, and he did the same in return. Not only did John love his family, but cared for his neighbors, friends, and wildlife alike. It was not uncommon seeing him help many animals while living by the lake. John could always put a smile on your face and would always end a conversation or get-together with a hug, kiss, or "love you darling/son". He will be dearly missed by all of those that were blessed to have known him.
John was preceded in death by his mother and father.
He is survived by his wife Betty Cross of Tyler, daughter and son-in-law Jonna and Larry Hightower of Whitehouse, daughter and son-in-law Kelly and Chad Reed of Tyler, son and daughter-in-law Dustin and Jenn Cross of New Braunfels, son Michael Yocom of New Braunfels. Grandchildren Brandon, Payton and Kamryn Hightower, Laurel, Annabelle, Sterling and Mikel Reed, and Chloe and Quinn Cross.
