Brett Erickson

UNION GROVE - Brett Allen Erickson, 44, passed away at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, Mont. on Friday, August 9, 2002, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born in Burlington on July 3, 1958, the son of Lowell and Patricia (nee: Welsh) Erickson. He was married on November 25, 1979, to Suzan M. McDonald. Brett grew up and graduated from high school in Union Grove. Brett served his country with the United States Navy from 1976 until 1983, where he traveled the Pacific with stops in Japan, Korea, Singapore, and the Philippines on the USS John Young. He continued serving with the Naval Reserves until 1999. Brett worked at Abbott Labs in Illinois as Security Maintenance. He was very active with the Boy Scout program, both when he was young and continued as a Leader when his son, Jacob, was in the program. Brett enjoyed being with his family and traveling. He had the opportunity to vacation in several areas of the country including Florida, California, Hawaii, Arizona, Idaho, and the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. Brett and his wife, Sue, had taken several motorcycle rides with close friends and had found great pleasure in doing so. His spirit will live on through the donation of his organs. Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 23 years, Suzan of Union Grove; daughter, Dawn (Shyn) Renfro of Racine; son, Jacob of Union Grove; two grandchildren, Shawn and Ellyanna Renfro; sisters, Cindy (Bill) Schattner of Eagle River and Sue (Gino) Perfetto of Racine; brothers, Ed Erickson of San Diego, Calif., Don Erickson, and Jeff (Patti) Erickson, both of Union Grove; sisters-in-law, Debby Rebel of Spokane, Wash. and Pat Wyder of Gainesville, Fla.; brother-in-law, Steve McDonald of Madison; also nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends too numerous to mention by name. Brett was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Patricia and Lowell Erickson. In accordance to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial service celebrating Brett's life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2002, at 7 p.m. at Grace Church, 3626 Highway 31 in Racine, with Rev. Jerry Worsham officiating. Fellowship will follow the Memorial service. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at the church on Friday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
