NEW YORK, N.Y. — Jay Elliott Barnhill, born Dec. 28, 1946, died Nov. 25, 2009.     

    As an actor/director and with a great love of the theater, Jay shared his genius in productions such as: “Tecumseh” by Sugden; “No Exit” by Sarte; Hedda Gabler by Ibsen; 1991’s, “Deposing the White House” by Isaac; 1992’s “Awoke One” by Agueros (NY); 1998 Hoppe’s comedy “Savior of the Universe”; and, in 2008 directed a reading of “Agunah” by his dearest friend, Karen Lichtman, at the New York Public Theater.

    Jay worked in the Public’s box office for the past 17 years where he was loved and respected.
    Jay served in the Air Force from Sept. ‘66-June ‘70 - Bowling AFB, DC/Korea.

    He is survived by his brother, Terry Barnhill and his sister, Julie Polisher, along with an incredible extended family and friends.

    A ceremony will be held this summer in the Ohio hills.


    He made us think. He made us feel. He was loved. He will be missed.

I had no idea that Jay was gone. I last saw him about 1980 in an airport. His love for the theater and the play productions in high school continued well past 1965, and he was acting in the production of "Tecumseh" in Jeckell's Island. He will be missed.
