Edwin Coppard
October 26, 1947 - May 9, 2019
Hello friends,
It is with the deepest sadness and heart-wrenching sorrow that the family announces the sudden passing of our Edwin. He passed away suddenly in Japan, while doing what he loved, surrounded by longtime and beloved associates, students, and friends.
We can't comprehend this world without him. He was a wild shooting star, shaking the boundaries of what we believed about ourselves and guiding many of us to grow more than we thought we could. Edwin's life and world was about transcending, sound, voice, and the resonance of our own stories within us. He lived and breathed it. This was the man behind the curtain, there was no curtain! His foolish generosity and his playfully rude spirit touched us all and opened the door for greater love and joy to flow through us. Thank you for holding us in your hearts in this impossible time. Sing a song for Edwin -- better yet, make one up on the spot! Sing it to your children, sing it to your neighbour. Share your sacred resonance. Wash the world in a wave of love. This would be the fulfillment of Edwin's lifelong dream.
The family will be celebrating in a sacred Japanese ceremony. Many will be coming from the length and breadth of Japan to honour him. We will then return to Canada with his ashes and honour him here.
We are having his birthday celebration and invite you to come by in the early afternoon of Friday, October 25th. His birthday is actually October 26th, but both Ulysses and Zane have a music gig on that night and Edwin would absolutely approve of adjusting the date for this reason.
Hello everyone, this will possibly be the final update you'll be receiving from us regarding Edwin's Passing. Included below is a link to a 3+ hour video/audio/image montage of Edwin's life and music. Please enjoy and hold Edwin in your hearts.
With love,

I never knew him personally but do remember the effect his arrival at Gladstone had on my fragile high school sensibilities. Envy. Ed Coppard was ‘the new guy’ at Gladstone. He was an attractive and confident guy with the much-coveted British accent. An immediate hit at the school. We came to see him, with ‘The Shockers’, as a gifted and passionate musician. In the fullness of time it would seem that he was greatly loved. He had it all and, it would appear, he earned it.

Just watched Ed's memorial, what an interesting and kind man he was. It's intriging to think back to the boy we knew and compare it to the man he became. He inspired so many. I wish I had known him longer than a short time in high school. I love how he brought music to life for so many.
