Jack Walter (Bud) Dobson VIEW PROFILE

Jack (Bud) Walter Dobson
April 15, 1929 - September 13, 2023

Born and raised in Kitsilano, Bud graduated from Kitsilano Secondary School, followed by UBC where he attained his BA and BED.  He went on to teach for the VSB, all his 35 years spent at Gladstone Secondary. He began as a Social Studies teacher and finished his career as a high school counselor.

Bud was an avid sports enthusiast who participated in hockey, skiing, hiking, and golf, however he excelled in badminton, soccer, baseball, and tennis, where he competed provincially, nationally, and internationally. He represented Canada in the Senior World Tennis Championships in Australia.

He was a long-time member of Jericho Tennis Club, where he served on the board of directors, ran countless events, and played many tournaments.  He also enjoyed his time in nature, with family and friends at his personal favourites; Yellow Point Lodge, Hornby Island, Hollyburn Mountain, Boundary Bay, and Jericho Beach.

He is predeceased by his brother, Neil, and survived by his wife Lee, of 65 years, daughters, Gayle (Gord), Jacquie (Nick), Denise (Richard), and Teresa (Rene), and his 4 grandchildren, Sydney, Claire, Brooke, and Charlie.

Whether he was called, "Bud", "Dad", "Grandpa", or "Bubba" he will be sorely missed for his encouragement, social nature, sense of fun, preposterous advice, and even a bit of dancing.
