WINTON John Leonard 1922 - 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Leonard Winton. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Sylvia, his brother and sister-in-law, Barry and Mary Downs, his brother Murray Winton and wife Ester Winton, brother Doug Winton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

His contributions to the community were extensive, foremost through his long teaching career. During his life, John's two greatest passions were square dance calling and sailing. He enjoyed fifty years of lively calling, performing with appreciative dancers at gatherings throughout North America. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. John was an avid gardener, accomplished skier, and lived life to the fullest.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful nurses, care staff and Doctors Bruce Gibson, Nirmal Kang, and Social Worker, Larry Aavista, at Riverview Hospital. Also Chris Rippin, for his inspiring music. The family appreciates as well, the early and ongoing guidance of Dr. Wayne Smith.

A memorial service and life celebration will be held at West Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Avenue, West Vancouver, at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 23, 2009. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Riverview Hospital, 2601 Lougheed Hwy. Coquitlam, BC, V3C4J2.
