Kerry Lynn Jack JACK, Kerry Lynn 19 March 1970 15 February 2008, (2:00 a.m.) At Hospice, Victoria, B.C., a light went out and the bell tolled. Even as a child Kerry was a sparkling engaging person. Her smile and voice were enough to light up a room or melt your heart. In fact, it was said: "Be prepared to lose your heart when you meet Kerry." Kerry was forthright and brave, standing up for the underdog and advancing racial and gender equality. As early in her life as grade school, she won awards for citizenship. Her love and respect for her husband, Chris Smith was obvious and huge. Chris and Kerry were a dynamic duo. She brought the heights of friendship, joy and pride to her Mom and Dad, Hilda and Bill Jack; brother, Hector; and to her inlaws, Elaine and Don, and Tanis Smith. To her Grandfather, Harold Jack and wife, Joan she was always the laughter and excitement in their lives. Kerry was an achiever in: swimming; tae kwon so; scuba diving, at University; research and writing; clothing design; interior design and repair and building and maintaining relationships. Although she died from a cruel and aggressive cancer, her spirit remained indomitable. One instruction she gave to her caregivers was that she wanted to remain lucid and mentally alert through her attempts to overcome this cancer. To do so she would accept pain and give up that degree of sedation. Kerry leaves us with her indelible imprint. We shall be forever grateful. Thank you to the many wonderful people who helped make this last journey more tolerable and to family and friends who moved to the back of the bus to respect our wishes to spend as much of our time as possible with Kerry. We will notify you of a memorial gathering in the Spring or early Summer. Please donate generously in memory of Kerry to the Victoria Hospice Society, 3rd., Floor, Richmond Pavilion, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, B.C. V8R 1J8. 447534
