My favourite memory of Alan was a story he related in the staffroom. When he taught at Lansdowne Jr...one day he was on outside supervision. Apparently, they had just introduced a no smoking rule...well he was outside and he was going to enforce the rule but no problem, no one smoked at Junior high anyway, just then he noticed a young boy with a lit cigarette by the sidewalk...Alan immediately reported him to the office. When he went to check to see what had happened to the smoker, the principal told him...false alarm, the 'smoker" was a student at Camousin college...he was on his way to the College when Alan corralled him...off the street!!! We had a great chuckle...
