Dorothy Loudon

LOWDON, Dorothy May (nee Campbell) September 08, 1925 - February 04, 2016 Dorothy (Dot) passed away at Saanich Peninsula Hospital Extended Care on February 4, 2016 after a long, eventful life. Predeceased by daughter Christine in November 1956, Dot is survived by husband Archie; children David, (Heather), Moira, Bruce, (Teresa) and Sheila, (Kerry); grandchildren Alycia, Katie, Craig, Evan, Bryan; and cousin Marie Bateman. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, September 8, 1925, Dot grew up in an extended family. During WWII Dot was a wireless operator in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, assigned to Coastal Command and was very proud of her contribution. She was then transferred to Kirkham Air Force Base on the East Coast of England where she met Archie. After the war Archie immigrated to Canada and Dot followed behind in August of 1950. Dot and Archie were married at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Victoria on May 18, 1951. Dot first worked for Kerr and Stephenson Insurance, and then moved on to the Victoria School Board at McKenzie Elementary and then Reynolds's Secondary School, where she happily greeted all defaulters who had "an appointment" with the Principal. Outside of work Dot was very active in the North and South Saanich Agricultural Society, (Saanichton Fair) for many years, and was honoured to be made a Life Time Member of the Society. Dot was a woman of strong convictions, a talented knitter and cared deeply about what was important to her. Most of all she loved having her family around her, and especially loved being Gran. She always felt a cup of tea would resolve any and all problems and would be there to make anyone a wee cuppa, day or night. A very special thank you to the staff of Saanich Peninsula Hospital Extended Care West 2 for the care they provided to Dot over the past 3 1/2 years. It was a comfort to the family knowing she was well cared for. A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Dr. on Wednesday, February 24 at 2:00pm. Please feel free to stop by for a cuppa. Flowers are gratefully declined; donations may be made to Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation.
