I remember Sonya being in the choir with me and having such a lovely voice. She was a good friend of mine in school and I am so sorry to hear of her passing.

Sonya was a month younger than me and was my Aunt.  She was my mother's Sister.  We grew up sharing our high school days together.  She married and moved away from Victoria.  She had a son, Rip, who died at birth and then had a daughter, Audra.

Sonya did not like homework and she would make all kinds of promises to me so that I would do it for her.  She was fun to be with and never seemed to have a care in the world.  She loved clothes and was very stylish.

Sonya went on to Victoria College and continued her singing.  My last vivid memory of her is seeing her draped on the piano in the gym in an assembly at the college singing "Saint Louie Woman".  It was amazing!  She had a marvelous, rich, sensuous voice that held everyone's attention.  It's been nearly fifty years, and I can still hear her.  Pat Tipton Sharp

Sonya and I remained close friends throughout our adulthood. She was an accomplished singer with a choir in Dallas and a top producing real estate agent. Visiting with her was always a joy. A year might have passed, but we picked up the conversation like it had only been yesterday. Sonya was genuine.
