Mitzi was one of the smartest people I ever knew in school.She proved that beauty is skin deep,but nice went clear to the bone!I remember that Mrs.Vickers once commented that "if anyone didn't like Mitzi,they had to be blind",and I think she was on point with that.A sharp sense of humor,and a "wicked"laugh that would make you smile.I am better for having known her!
I visited with Mitzi the first when we were in elementary school. The Mitchells had the most wonderful, and I thought fascinating home. I still see Mitzi's mom, and she is a most delightful, lovely lady.
Mitzi and I were best friends during high school. We shared so many good times together and visited each others homes often. Mitzi and her mother had a bridal shower for me when I married.
My fondest memory of Mitzi and I at Victoria High was always eating our brown bag lunch on the outside steps at the far left end of the building. Those steps no longer exist. That was our special time together each day to talk about what was going on in our lives and sharing a few secrets, too.
MItzi married and moved away but always visited me when she made trips home to see her parents. I remember the last time I saw her was in my home and she had to use both hands, with much difficulty, to lift a glass of water to her mouth. Her mother had driven her to see me. The disease really took hold of Mitzi, but she fought it to the very end. She wanted so much to live. Smart is not the best word to describe her. She was brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, fun to be with, and a very devoted friend.
A very special person. She is flying with the angels with that big smile on her face........She will be with us at the reunion in spirit and watching over us.
