With every breath and every ounce of strength, she inspired us against her battle with cancer. On Thursday, March 19th, 2009, our loving Lorena Abad Asperin embarked on her journey to heaven and was embraced by our Lord. While her years in life were shortened, her abundance of love and joy will endure in those who adored her. Born June 7, 1971, in San Francisco, CA, she was the daughter of Renato Fortin Abad and Lolita Corcoro Abad. She was the supportive sister of Betty Abad Barnuevo and John Ray Abad and devoted wife to Randolf Jovero Asperin. As a wonderful mother, her greatest works of art were her children Ryan Tyler, Lauren Nicole, and Connor Reid. A graduate of Kempsville High School and George Mason University, she earned a degree in accounting and later spent her professional career at KPMG. She obtained her CPA and moved up the ranks within the Company, eventually reaching the position of Associate Director for the Mid-Atlantic Region. In the years of fighting her illness she became a strong advocate for breast cancer awareness. Lorena was an adventurous cook, aspiring karaoke singer, avid reader, Dallas Cowboys fan, Grease musical fanatic, and a movie aficionado. She was the life of the party and the source of constant laughter and joy. She will be missed dearly by friends and family. Additional survivors include, Alvin Barnuevo, brother-in-law; Brody and Ayden, nephews; Rosemae, sister-in-law; and Ken Lowry, Niko, Andrew, Christian, and Sydney, nephews and niece; Rizalyn, sister-in-law; and Allan Delgado, Rogelio and Remedios Asperin, parents of Randolf; cousins, Neriza Tackett and Tom Peters, Lisa and Roberto Andriano, Jeanette and Carlos Corderio; and numerous uncles, aunties, and cousins from the Philippines. A viewing will be held at Tuesday, March 24, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. in Catholic Church of Saint Mark. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Asperin Children's Fund, c/o Betty Abad Barnuevo, 2409 Fenwick Way, Virginia Beach, VA 23453. Condolence may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
