Marcia Ellen Cutter Neel of Menard, Texas died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday June 24, 2009 at her residence.
Graveside service will be held Saturday June 27, 2009 at 10:00AM in Rest Haven Cemetery in Menard.
Marcia was born June 23, 1949 in Amarillo, Texas the daughter of Dr. Charles Richard Cutter III and his wife Phyllis Marie Fletcher Cutter.
Following graduation from Richfield High School in 1967 in Waco, Texas she attended Baylor University and graduated in 1971 with a BA degree in secondary education. In the ensuing years Marcia specialized in teaching special education students but also taught English and history in such diverse schools as Penelope High School in Penelope, Texas; Lake Highland Junior High in Richardson, Texas; O.D. Wyatt High School in Fort Worth, Texas; Trinity High School in Hurst, Texas; Grapevine High School in Grapevine, Texas; University Junior High in Waco, Texas; Glacier View Hospital in Kalispell, Montana; Lago Vista High School in Lago Vista, Texas; The Brown School in Austin and San Marcos, Texas; and Austin Reagan High School in Austin, Texas.
In addition to all her teaching duties she also found time to teach vocational subjects, write grants for schools, start new school programs and obtain funding for them, spearhead marketing for hospitals, accumulate a number of teaching certificates and serve as sponsor for various school groups and activities. Idleness was never a part of her life but a spontaneous outpouring of joy and laughter certainly were.
Marcia was an avid outdoorswoman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Marcia often took her grandchildren fishing day and night. While living in Kalispell Marcia shot a moose on top of a mountain and with the help of a female teaching friend she managed to take it down the mountain tie it to the top of her car take it to her home and clean and butcher it by herself. In addition she may hold the unofficial record for catching a very large red snapper one night while fishing off South Padre Island, Texas.
Following her retirement from teaching Marcia made her home in Menard, Texas and married Ben Neel who survived her. Other survivors include her daughter Emily Marie Walker Faltesek and husband Danny of Hutto, Texas; her daughter Leslie Ann Walker Pratt and husband Nick of Leander, Texas; her sister Cynthia Marie Cutter Wheeler and husband Rob of Leander; two stepdaughters: Audrey Marie Neel of San Angelo, Texas and Bonnie Ellis Neel of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren: Sabrina Pratt and Cooper Pratt of Leander, Texas; Madison Faltesek of Hutto, Texas; and Riley James Neel-Hernandez of San Angelo; two nieces: Robyn Wheeler Cromwell and husband Ben of Lago Vista, Texas and Carrie Wheeler Cross and husband Kevin of El Paso, Texas as well as a large number of uncles, aunts and cousins.
