-- Rex G. McIlvaine, 82, died Sunday, January 2, 2000 at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital after a brief illness.


Born in Wadsworth, Mr. McIlvaine resided in Creston for 46 years, previously residing in Wadsworth. He was a veteran of U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was employed at Wadsworth City School where he was football coach, driving instructor and athletic director retiring in 1981 after 35 years service.

He was preceded in death by brother, Earl. Mr. McIlvaine is survived by wife, Elizabeth V.; son, John (Sandy) of Wadsworth; daughter, Lynn (Mrs. Jerry) Dare of Boulder, Colo; son, Michael (Joyce) of Wayne, Pa.; daughter, Jean (Mrs. Butch) Crabtree of Creston; son, Don (Tina) of Wadsworth; grandchildren, Scott (Katie) Smith, Kristen, Keith, Heather (Mrs. Mike) Wickens, Michelle, Tyler, Laura, and Brad.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hilliard & Mullaney Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth where funeral services will be held Thursday, 10 a.m. Rev. Jonathan A. Knight officiating. Interment South Jackson Cemetery, Creston. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Scholarship Foundation, c/o Ty Powers, 547 Wall Rd., Wadsworth, Ohio 44281.
