WADSWORTH -- Eugene J. Lyren, 75, died June 16, 1990 at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Lyren was born in Youngstown, and resided in Wadsworth 49 years. He was a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, where he earned four letters in football as an offensive lineman. He was a mathematics teacher at Wadsworth High School for 26 years, retiring in 1976, and a former member of the Wadsworth Kiwanis Club. He was head baseball coach from 1951 to 1961, and his  1954 team was the only Wadsworth baseball team in history to qualify for the state tournament. In 1961, Mr. Lyren became athletic director, and held that position until 1967. He was also one of the founders of the Wadsworth Little League program, serving as the group's first president. He was inducted into the Wadsworth Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.

Mr. Lyren is survived by his wife, Florence; sons and daughters-in-law William J. and Elaine of Wadsworth, Robert E. of Akron, John D. and Jean Marie of Sandusky; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Mary Repasky of Struthers; brothers, John Doroshenko of Hartwell, Ga., Walter Lychako of  Dunnellon, Fla.


Memorial services Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, 146 High St., Wadsworth, Rev. Joseph F. Ertl officiating. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Scholarship Foundation of
