Rev. Roy J. Bendel, Jr., 80, of Wadsworth went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 4, 2011 at Hospice Care Center in Copley.

He was born January 12, 1931 in Wadsworth to Roy J., Sr. and Alice B. (Davis) Bendel and was a life resident of Wadsworth.

He received his education from Wadsworth High School, Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC and the University of Akron.

Roy was a teacher at Wadsworth High School, Akron Urban League and Cuyahoga Valley Career Center and retired with 40 years of service. He loved teaching and Bible study. Roy formerly pastored at the Calvary Bible Chapel in Wadsworth and established several Christian youth fellowships. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and attended the Valleyview Chapel in Wadsworth.

Surviving are his sister, Ann Wilson of Rittman; a brother, Russell (Marta) Bendel of Wadsworth; and nieces and nephews, Kim (Kevin) Gasser of Rittman, Alan Wilson, Rittman, Kevin Wilson of Cuyahoga Falls, Bill (Joanne) Bendel of Wadsworth, Lori (Raymond) Dickerhoof of Creston, Debra (Scott) Adams of Norton, Matt (Rachel) Bendel of Wadsworth, Steve (Susie) Bendel of Doylestown, Rodger Bendel of Akron, Randy Bendel of Marshallville, Mick Bendel of Stow, Lee Bendel of Wadsworth and Tim Bendel of Norton; sister-in-law, Jackie Bendel of Wadsworth; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 8, at the Valleyview Chapel, 1391 State Rd., Wadsworth with Pastor’s Myron Lindsey and Tom Becker officiating.
