Darell's sister Sharon told me:
He went to the hospital on Saturday after eating a bad sandwich. He didnt feel well and had horrible pain in his stomach and fever of 102. He has been there ever since. They said he had an obstruction in his stomach. I was sitting with him and he looked at me saying he was hyperventilating. His eyes went wide open and he started to shake all over. I ran to get the nurse and they started yelling code blue. They tried for a half hour to revive him and couldn't.

I remember Darell from 1966 when he and I were in Boy Scout troop 404. He was one of the funniest ones that was in the troop. I have a memory of him at Camp Manatoc when he had a pair of glow in the dark neon green socks. He ( and his long legs) were running through the woods with the socks blazing. You couldn't see Darell, but you could see the neon socks going up and down. Forty eight years later, and I still laugh when I think about it.
I last saw Darell at a get together in Akron around 1998 or so. He remembered the green socks.....Gonna miss you Darell......you were a good friend. My condolences to the family. -Keith Patterson

Darell has got to be the sweetest and most caring person in the class. If he was capable he attend all the reunions. He would always bring copies of movies he copied, or cds with music he had recorded. He enjoyed passing them out to everyone who attended a mini reunion. Darell would always watch me make my way around the room to take pictures of everyone at the minis. When I would get to him, he would always hide his face behind the menu. If he didn't have one he would use his arm like the picture above. Then he would laugh that naughty boy laugh like he had no idea I was going to take his picture. He would always make his special salsa to bring to the minis. There was always a few extra jars he would slip me to take home to my daughters. Our daughters were just as much in shock as we were to hear he passed. We will all miss Darell!! But I know that God gained a very loving and jolly angel when he took Darell. I know he will be keeping an eye on our minis and be with us in spirit. Because he never misses a reunion.

Who doesn't remember darell! i can remember one time we were riding in his car on West street(this was the 70's) when all of a sudden he pulls out a peanut butter sandwich in case he got the munchies!!! rest in peace my good friend darell!!
Don Brickel
We were friends since the 1st grade and when we moved a few houses down from him on West Street we did everything together. We would play in the woods behind his house and he taught me so many things about the wildlife there. Then we were in Boy Scouts Troop 404 and we always had fun there. Yes, Keith, the neon socks!

Carry on Darell, you are a gentle giant, with a little mischief thrown in to keep it interesting. . We are all the better to have had you in our lives. We were kindred spirits of the world of woodworking and have both spent our adult lives working in the trade. Good memories bud.
