

LUMBERTON — Jon Britt Thorsten was born in Briarcliff, N.Y. on Oct. 23, 1954.
Raised by Leif and Lee Thorsten, he and his family moved to Wadsworth, Ohio, when he was a year old. Jon graduated from Wittenberg University in 1977 with a BS in Biophysics along with a Radiology certification. Jon served as an educator in Radiology for several years until he became director of Radiology at Community Hospital in Springfield, Ohio. Jon then moved to Salisbury, Md., in 1984, where he was the director of Radiology at Peninsula Regional Medical Center until the year 2000. Throughout the years, Jon was active in the Boy Scouts of America as well as volunteering as an advisor to the Wicomico County Career Ready Partnership.
In April of 2000, Jon accepted the position of director of Medical Imaging at Southeastern Health, where he continued his career until his retirement in May of 2018. Jon was an avid speaker and was heavily involved in the Toastmasters program, as well as led the Explorer Post for students interested in medical careers at Southeastern Health. Prior to the purchase of a second home in Cherry Grove, S.C., Jon and his wife, Beth attended Chestnut Street United Methodist Church in Lumberton, where he served on the praise team. During his tenure at Southeastern Health, Jon obtained a master's degree in Public Health and Healthcare Administration.
For the past 22 years, Jon has been an active sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Jon was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Cancer in August of 2013. With the tremendous support and caring of the Southeastern healthcare team, Jon survived five years until his passing on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018.
Survived by his wife, Beth Thorsten of Lumberton; two sons, Jon Kent Thorsten (wife Katrina) of Chesapeake, Va., and Andrew Hunt Thorsten (wife Ashley) of Clarksburg, Md.; four stepsons, Robert Bentley Pflaumer (wife Jennifer) of Ocean Pines, Md., Patrick Anthony Pflaumer (wife Amanda) of Baltimore, Md., Gavin Graham Pflaumer (wife Erin) of Wilmington, and Adam Rockwell Pflaumer (wife Tracy) of Wilmington; and by 11 grandchildren, Andrew Steven Thorsten, Peyton Jane Pflaumer, Ryan Patrick Pflaumer, Colin Britt Thorsten, Emma Corinne Pflaumer, Mia Leigh Thorsten, Harper Elizabeth Pflaumer, Indigo Jane Pflaumer, Cash Graham Pflaumer, Hudson Leif Thorsten, and Bennett Rockwell Pflaumer. Jon is also survived by his sister, Sigrid Howell (husband David) of Mashpee, Mass., and brother Leif Kris Thorsten (wife Mary) of Oceanside, Calif.
Jon never met a stranger and truly lived out his mantra, "Family is Everything."
