Jacquelyn Elaine Burick (Edgar) passed away unexpectedly October 6 at her home in Sharon Center, Ohio.
Born June 4, 1954, in Barberton, Ohio, to William and Letha Edgar, Jackie graduated from Wadsworth High School and went on to earn a degree from The University of Akron. She was employed for many years as a radiology tech at St. Thomas Hospital, where she met her husband Dr. Joseph Burick. She then went on to manage her husband's North Hill family practice office for many years before retiring.
Jackie was a loving wife, mother, Baki (grandmother) and friend. Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, she had numerous friends. Jackie and Joseph raised two daughters, Christina Nicole Cyrus (Burick) and Nichole Marie Claire Burick. She supported and encouraged her family to pursue anything they wanted. While her daughters attended college, she sent care packages once a month filled with college necessities. She adored travel and brought the worlds of travel and philanthropy together by planning family trips to third world countries, bringing medical supplies to help those living in the worst conditions. It was important to her that her children experience a life outside of their own "world" as they knew it so they would not only appreciate what they had but also help others who needed it. Teaching her family to embrace a love of culture and arts was important to Jackie, whether it was local artistry from one of the third world countries or watching a Broadway show in New York. Every Christmas, the family received one gift and the rest of the time was spent gathering presents for Give a Gift Trees, in which the family sponsored four families in need every year. Her love of helping people was also exemplified through her volunteer service with the American Red Cross, Sharon Center Fire Department and many other organizations. She loved spontaneity and life. While most mothers would say no to running outside in the rain through the puddles to a group of seven girls sleeping over, she would say why not it's only water and be out there jumping in the rain, too, then playing beauty parlor once inside since everyone's hair was soaked. She loved her family and hosting family events, especially Thanksgiving Dinner. She also enjoyed reading, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. Jackie will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nichole Marie Claire Burick; mother and father, Letha and Bill Edgar.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Joseph Burick; her daughter, Christina Cyrus (Burick); her son-in-law, Jim Cyrus; her grandchildren, Addison Grace Cyrus and Grayson James Cyrus; several loved cousins and several family pets.
Memorial Mass will Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 83 Mosser Place, Akron, Ohio 44310 with Father Jim Ragnoni, Celebrant. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Memorial for Jackie Burick at any FirstMerit Bank. Funds will assist Jackie's grandchildren to attend college, which was very important to her.
