Paul Brian Chase
May 9, 1951 — June 22, 2016
Paul Brian Chase of Wellesley, Mass., loving husband of Martha Gallagher,
brother of Joan Weinmaster and her husband, Gene (Walla Walla), Belinda Tomkins (Walla
Walla), Christopher Chase (Walla Walla) and Craig Chase (Walla Walla), and several nieces and nephews,
as well as his aunt and uncle, Carol and Kirby Satterland and their children, Matthew, Michael, and
Mark, whom he held dear, passed away on June 22, 2016, at the age of 65. Paul was born to Dorothy Anne Schamer and Herman Joseph Chase in Walla Walla, where he grew up. He then attended Gonzaga University and later transferred to the University of Washington in Seattle, and earned a bachelor of science in psychology. He later attended University of California at Berkeley, where he earned a master’s in psychology and master’s in statistics. Paul continued at UC Berkeley as a quantitative analyst and managed a consulting business as well as publishing a book on IBM operating systems with John Wiley & Sons.
In 1998, Paul headed east to join Martha in Wellesley. He worked at Fidelity Investments for several
years and subsequently held various consulting roles with specialties in statistics and data analytics.
Paul brought curiosity, thoughtful insight, humor and, above all else, kindness to all who knew him.
Paul had a voracious appetite for learning, especially in his field of data analytics, but also the New York
Times and for mastering arcane words. His wit was dry and delightfully unexpected. He was especially
interested in travel and cooking. Over the past several years, Paul took on the art of landscape photography.
But most of all, Paul brought a special reserve of patience, empathy and an acceptance of all those
close to him that set him apart. Paul will be truly missed.
