Kelvin Collins

WALLINGFORD - Kelvin Collins, 48, of Wallingford, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at his home.

He was born Nov. 30, 1961, a son of Minnie Howard Collins, of North Haven and the late Charlie C. Collins. He was a graduate of Mark T. Sheehan High School, where he played football for four years. He trained in drafting at Porter Chester Institute, attended Central University for two years, and studied plumbing at Eli Whitney. Kelvin was a big sports enthusiast; but in many ways one of his strongest attributes was supporting his family and friends.

In addition to his mother, Minnie, he is survived by his brothers, Sherwin and his wife, Erin, Dale, Donovan and his wife, Elizabeth; also Sean, his nephew and "little buddy"; many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

His life will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford. Interment will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park, in Hamden, immediately following the funeral service. His family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 9, from 5 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to Minnie Collins c/o the funeral home which will be used to setup a scholarship fund for Kelvin's nephew. www.wallingfordfh.com

Sent to all of us from Michael Bush on November 4, 2010:

Memories of his smile and his big, kind heart. A great friend from the neighborhood. Timeless. People have told me, and I know it to be true, " You could see Kelvin, after not seeing him for 10years, and pick up right where you left off. He was so warm and open to be around." A great natured human being. And lastly as a friend, was the best listener anytime you wanted to talk.

I would also like to add that Kelvin and I kept in touch all these years and he remained one of my closest friends.  He was always so fun to be around and he lit up the room.  Everyone who really knew Kelvin, LOVED him!  Not sure if any of you know this, but back in 1997, Kelvin saved my brother's life.  He applied pressure to an artery that was severed in my brother's neck until paramedics got to the scene.  If Kelvin had not done that, my brother would not be here today.  Kelvin was not only one of my closest friends, he was my hero!  I will miss him and his beautiful self.  God Bless.  Jody XO

Mike was right in saying that anyone who knew Kelvin - loved him.  Kelvin was always kind and lit up the room with his sense of humor and his beautiful smile.  I had not seen him for a while and when I did we spent the whole night laughing and talking as if no time had passed. This is another great loss to our class and to all that knew him, or were fortunate enough to be called his friend. Take this opportunity to reach out to someone you have lost contact with. You never know what tomorrow will bring and life is proving to be way too short.  We have a list of classmates that all hold memories for each of us.  Kelvin along with all of them will be remembered today, at our reunion and always.

Beautiful, Lisa...Jody XO
