Mr. Billy Ray Craven, 68, of Walterboro, entered into rest Monday morning, August 27, 2018, at Riverside Health and Rehab in Charleston.
Born April 6, 1950, in Colleton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Leroy Craven and the late Virginia Carson Craven. For many years, Billy Ray worked as a security guard at Kiawah Island prior to serving as a deputy with the Colleton County Sherriff’s Office. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Walterboro. He will always be remembered for his passion for fishing and collecting as well as the love he possessed for his dog, “Rat”.
Surviving are: two sons, Bill Craven, Jr. and his wife Melody of Ruffin and Thomas Roy Craven of Walterboro; a step-daughter, Angie Araneo of Walterboro; and a brother, Wayne Craven of Augusta, Georgia. There are two grandchildren, Cole Cummings and Rachel Craven that also survive.
A memorial service will be conducted 6 o’clock Friday evening, August 31, 2018, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Steve Crosby officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony until 8 o’clock that evening.
