RIP, Brock.  I treasure more than ever your wood carving of a gnome-like fellow from your Germany years that hangs in my den.

At the last class reunion that I remember Brock attending we discussed our wood carvings and he was quite a wood carver.  I enjoyed our time discussing the kind of wood carvings and the kind of wood he carved.

Brock always walked a different path through life. But he knew where he wanted to go. I recall him talking about one college summer in Germany with a fraternity buddy. They both got jobs at the nearby Mercedes factory where his friend’s father also worked. So, his tie in to the Germanic culture was already imbedded somewhat. Then his military assignment in Germany made it more so.

The most amusing line that Brock used frequently was his answer when someone asked a question of smallish curiosity. He’d say “It’s a weinernoss”. Of course, someone would always ask: “What’s a weinernoss?” Brock would say the famous line passed down from dad, (Lowell and uncle Merrill in Nappanee): “It’s a thing that sets on a fence post up at Milford Junction”.  The response of course was always: Huh?

For those not familiar, the Big Four railroad line passes north-south through Warsaw and the B&O passes east-west just north of the town of Milford. At that junction of the two is a small settlement in Van Buren township named Milford Junction. As you leave the town of Milford traveling north on Indiana 15 one goes up a railroad overpass. A look  to the right going up will reveal Milford Junction….but no weinernoss.

II lived on Main Street from 7th grade to Senior and Brocks house was right behind our house on Center Street.

We would gather in his basement where Brock built bikes and repaired them and we had a small club called the 8 Aces. Brock would always do homework and we all knew at certain times if we were at his house that it was time to leave so he could do homework. Brocks mom and Dad were always so nice to me.

Brock and Bob were the first guys I met when my parents moved to Warsaw. Many good times were spent at the Blosser household. The Eight Aces Bike Club, Custom Cars, Senior Cords, Rock & Roll were the good memories of the 50's. Brock was always enterprising mowing lawns and rebuilding bicycles to resell on the front lawn. He bought his tri-five Chevy with his own money when he turned 16.
