I was fortunate to get to know John not only in school, but also because we went to Redeemer Lutheran Church and were confirmed together.  He was, and always has been, such a big, loving teddy bear of a friend.  He will be missed by many.  Noje Fitkin

John Schroeder was my friend. I played basketball with him at East Ward on cold, Sunday afternoons. We had Whamo Slingshots and shot out his Dad's car windshield. We had pet turtles and would talk on the phone about them and I would bring my turtle to his house and his to mine. We played football and  I dreaded being across from him because I saw stars and would almost get knocked out from his strength. Since Kindergarten at East Ward to eating breakfast at the American Legion  in these later years. We have always gotten along. We had fish aquariums as kids and then as adults and talked about them. John and Dick Fancil were no one to be messed with and John's son Ben, said to me once, "If half the stuff I hear about Dad is true, he must have been something else!" John Schroeder was something else. A good man. A good man to me. He was my friend.
