Phillip Scholl

Dr. Philip C. Scholl, a 1961 graduate of Warsaw High School and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Scholl, 541 East Main St., died in a house fire at his College Station, Texas residence in 1976.  Phil was married to the former Kathleen Morrissey Aug. 27, 1965 in Plymouth.  Dr. Scholl was an assistant professor of chemistry at Texas A & M University, appointed in 1971.  He was a physical organic chemist employed to initiate a research program which was to include new approaches to practical methods of carrying out chemical reactions as well as theoretical calculation of the properties of certain molecules.

Born in Warsaw on Dec. 24, 1942, Phil was a 1965 graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry with distinction.   He received his Ph.D degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1969 where he held research fellowships from both the National Science Foundation and the Sun Oil Co.  He spent two years as a research associate at Columbia University, holding a post-doctoral fellowship from the National Institute of Health.  In 1971 he presented a paper at the 173rd National Meeting of the American Chemical Society,held in Los Angeles.  In addition, he was co-author of several scientific publications.

In addition to his parents, Phil is survived by a three-year-old daughter, Heather Scholl.  One sister preceded him in death.
