RE: IDEAS!! Posted Saturday, July 11, 2009 09:56 AM Couple of ideas come to mind. The new hotel, Sleep Inn, probably has a banquet room. Also, Gracie's has a small banquet room w/ the hotel near by. Five Points also has rooms, but with that being homecoming weekend, I'm sure they're already booked. I figure those are local but I'm sure you've already thought of that. I can tell you from experience, my husband's class reunion was last year at Embassy Suites in EP and no one went because the price to attend was astronomical, $80 each person. They ended up meeting up at Brogy's for free. That left the organizers footing the bill. I wouldn't mind paying a small price to attend to help book a room as long as it's within reason. I'm sure someone has "connections" with the local businesses that could bargain a good price for a room... I may just be stating the obvious what everyone has already thought of, but I thought I'd bring it up just in case. |

RE: IDEAS!! Posted Friday, July 24, 2009 08:13 PM Wow Kai sounds like you should be planning this thing! As far as what Emily said about connections doesn't Amy Dedecker or however you spell it doesn't she run the sleep inn i am sure she would be able to set something up for us and hold a block of rooms for those out of towners like Kai and Joalla. I am willing to help with whatever I can. |

I'm just thinking what ever we do let's keep it simple. It's the 10 year and a lot of people won't be able to come due to the crappy economy. The thing that stinks about that is if it isn't fun then people won't some to the next one either. Also, I am with you guys, it has to be affordable. A lot of us have small children and with the cost of travel, a room, and a sitter for out of towners might be too much. So I was thinking maybe doing a night at the park for a cook out or tail gate type of thing on Friday night. That way people can bring kids. Then, Saturday we could reserve a room at Alexanders. People can get what they want and drink if they want... or not. Also, we'd have the accomodations of a bar with out the crowd. Just an idea. A client of mine said they did this for hers and it was great. People could mingle and it was structured without being too structured. Decorations would be easy of people want to bring pictures from HS and it would be funny to make signs like we did for games back then. Or we could say screw a ten year and go right for the 11th:) Too bad Jubilee lost it's funding... |

RE: IDEAS!! Posted Monday, August 17, 2009 10:34 AM I don't know how long the new Gracie's has been open...seems like less than a year. You are correct, Kai, it used to be in the Cherry Tree Shopping Center, but they have a new location that is a bar & grill, think a smaller Chili's. It does have a beer garden and a small banquet room, but there should be plenty of room for all of us. However, if all else fails, we'll just have to make the best of it. With a few beers in the system, I doubt anyone will be too upset. But it is nice to note that 1 keg is not enough... In any case, maybe for our 25 year reunion we'll get a really big fancy place to celebrate, but for right now, Gracie's is just enough, I think. But I definitely volunteer Kai to help organize the next one! ; ) |
