Bill Clifton went missing December 1982. On February 9, 2024 his 1975 Camaro was discovered in 12 feet of water in Jack's Creek.
One of Bill's daughters posted the following on FaceBook:
"After 41 years...The Washington Police Department and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office have identified the car found in Jack's Creek on February 9, 2024, as my father William Clifton's 1975 Camaro, with remains of all three missing men inside. They went missing on December 10, 1982. Unfortunately, no DNA profiles could be obtained from the remains, but the medical examiner and anthropologist confirmed the identification based on other evidence. I need to try and find some peace with this information. I know this brings closure for others, and hopefully, it will for me as time moves on.
I am incredibly grateful for everyone who assisted in the search and for the community's unwavering support during this long journey. Thank you all for your support."
