Max Russell Tolman

June 06, 1948 - May 19, 2015

St George, Utah – Our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on May 19, 2015 at the age of 66 after a long illness. He was born on June 6, 1948 to James Russell and Harriet LaRue Barney, the 2nd of seven children in Logan, Utah. He married Karen Bryson on August 14, 1970 in the Logan Temple. They were blessed with three children and four grandchildren.

He was an active member of the Foot Hills ward in St. George, served an LDS mission to the Central States, and has held many church positions. He especially enjoyed working with the youth. He worked in retail sales, owning a clothing store in Price, Utah for 10 years. Later he graduated from Utah State University, earning a degree in education. He taught at Sunset Elementary school for many years, later becoming principal at Phelps, LaVerkin, and Horizon Elementary schools. He loved teaching science and the many activities with his students. He loved being with his family and enjoyed hiking, camping, skiing, 4 wheeling and riding his motorcycle.

He survived by his wife, Karen; his son Sean of Salt Lake City; daughters Rachelle Dunn of Fairbanks, AK and Jessica (Chris) Andrus of St. George; and four grandchildren Jasmine, Baylee, Daphny and Elizabeth. Also survived by his brother Duane (Paulette) of Las Vegas, NV his sisters Joann (Clarence) Coprich of Victorville, CA., Joyce Flint of Syracuse, UT, and Sherri (James) Barger of cedar City, UT. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Stanley and Thomas.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May23, 2015 at the Foot Hills Chapel 2079 E. 2450 S. St George, Utah There will be a viewing from 9 to 10:30 am with the service at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery on Tuesday May 26, 2015 at 11:00 am.
