Wayne Wilson

Wayne Roy Wilson

October 29, 1948 ~ February 23, 2017

Wayne Roy Wilson, 68, our loving husband, dad, and papa left us suddenly and peacefully on Feb 23, 2017. He is now free of pain and no longer suffers from complications from the back injury that robbed him of much of his life 10 years ago.

He was born Oct. 29, 1948 in Ogden, UT to parents Harold O. and Ruth E. Wilson. He grew up in Washington Terrace and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1966.

At the age of 23 he married the love of his life, Betty Oberbroekling, and they made a beautiful life together with their 3 children in Hooper, UT.

Wayne’s family and community were his life. His love for both were without bounds. He was a very generous and giving individual with a big heart that was well known and loved by the communities he served.

He spent 16 years of his career working at Smith’s where he climbed through the ranks from bagger to District Manager. He left this career to pursue his dream of owning his own chain of convenience stores in and around Hooper. For 15 years Wayne’s dream provided not only a place that someone could come to shop, but also a place that brought his community together, welcoming all with open arms. Wayne was an incredibly hard worker with a git-er-done attitude that gave back to his community in every way. He loved his employees and provided countless kids with their first job.

Wayne’s favorite time of year was Christmas. He loved putting up his grand light display at his house, doing Sub-for-Santa, or the turning on of the lights in Hooper.

Wayne was the president of the Hooper Lion’s club which allowed him to put on many of the 4th of July celebrations and fundraisers.

In Wayne’s younger years, he spent many summers in Jackson Hole where his parents were both from. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, waterskiing, boating, and most importantly being with his family. Wayne spent many summers taking his family on vacations to Lake Powell. He loved spending time in the shop making things for other people, and teaching his kids and grandkids how to use his tools.

Wayne’s pride and joy were his grandkids, even on days that he didn’t think he could get out of bed he somehow found the strength to be there for their ball games. He had a huge heart and even when he didn’t have much to give he still sacrificed to selflessly give to others. He was a great man and the rock of our family. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Betty Wilson; children: Ryan Wilson, Jodi (Dan) Tippets, Ashley (Blake) Bennett; 12 grandchildren, 2 brothers, 4 sister-in-laws, 2 brother-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday Feb. 28, 2017 at Lindquist Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. The family will meet with friends Monday Feb. 27, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
