
Rita Louise (Riggert) Brtek, 55, of Plano TX, Passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, after more than a decade-long battle with cancer. Rita grew up in Waterloo IA, where she graduated from West High School and the University of Northern Iowa. She was a resident of Omaha NE for 20 plus years, where she worked in the banking and home mortgage industry at Security National Bank and Wells Fargo. Later she worked for ABS Corporation.
Rita was preceded in death by her grandparents, Christoph and Louise Riggert and Charles and Hilda Siek, and her father, Jerome J. "Jerry" Riggert. Rita is survived by her daughter, Taylor Brtek of Lincoln, NE; mother, Marcella M. "Sally" Riggert of Friendship Village, Waterloo IA; a twin sister Ruth Lerohl, of Spring Hill Fl; sisters: Sue Smythe and husband Greg, and Patti Riggert of Plano TX; brother Mark Riggert and Steven Westenbroek of Omaha and a host of nephews, grand nieces, colleagues and friends who will miss Rita greatly.
Rita loved music and was a talented musical hobbyist. She enjoyed singing, and playing the piano and the flute. She was active in her church - involved in choir, bible study, prision ministry and youth confirmation. Rita enjoyed going to sporting events, concerts and taking road trips with her daughter. She loved attending her daughters dance recitals and track meets. Rita had a soft spot in her heart for the disadvantaged, especially the homeless, whether people or animals. While living in Plano, she helped ensure safe harbor for rescued dogs.
A Celebration of life is planned for Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM, at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Omaha, NE. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Faith Hospice-T.
