Robert George Smith

Barbara Carnahan (White) writes:

It is my sad duty to inform the Class of 1974 that Robert G. Smith passed from this life on May 15, 2018. He is and will be sorely missed.

Barb added the following thoughts on March 20, 2019:

Bob lead a very successful career on the Chicago theatre scene. Designing set and lighting for numerous off-loop theaters. He could sit down with a director for a meal and have a complete set designed on a napkin by its conclusion. Bob was prolific and always a joy to be with. He designed the set for the WTTW show "Wild Chicago". He won an Emmy for his work. He also designed for Red Orchid, Victory Garden, and many others for decades. His entire life as a designer reads as a Who's Who of Off Loop theater. His day job at Northeastern University, Chicago gave him another outlet for his many design talents. After retiring. he married his college love, Catherine A Smith. Bob struggled with kidney failure from diabetes. My husband & I will miss him dearly in the years to come.

Cause of Death: Kidney failure/transplant
