Josephine “Jo” Marie Petersen, 77, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018, at her home in Waterloo.

Josephine was born on September 4, 1940, near Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Elfrieda (Oschlager) and Herman H. Meyne. Josephine was raised in Waverly, attended Waverly-Shell Rock School, and graduated in 1958.

In 1972, Josephine was united in marriage to Thomas Petersen at Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo. The couple later divorced. Josephine worked at the Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, and then as a clerk for the State of Iowa - Juvenile Court Services.

Josephine was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo, and most recently attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church - Artesian near Waverly. She enjoyed dining out, with her favorite restaurant being J’s Homestyle Cooking in Cedar Falls. She also enjoyed collecting “Box Tops for Education” and donating them to Valley Lutheran School in Cedar Falls.

Josephine is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Gitch of Denver; one granddaughter, Melissa (Clay) Nieman of Denver; one grandson Matthew Gitch of Denver; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Harold; and one sister Mildred Rieman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church - Artesian, rural Waverly, with Pastor Randolph McHone officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery - Artesian. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
