Wayne was my best friend at Avery and all the way untill we got to high school. We drifted in different directions. What a good man, gentle soul and true friend.

Wayne deserves more of a tribute and deserved a better friend than I knew how to be.

We did everything together starting in 2nd grade at Avery. I went on summer vacations with his family and pretty much hung out at his house almost everyday after school. In 5th or 6th grade we decided to build a giant firecracker. So we spent months cutting firecrackers open and dumping the gun powder into a small container. It was a plastic holder for a deck of cards. We ended up with about an 1/8th of an inch. Then we took the fuses and piled as many as we could  on top, then squeezed the top on sealing it and taped it shut. We had poked a small hole in one end where we left a shoe string hanging out. On new years eve his parents went out so we had the house to ourselves. It had snowed and so there was a large pile of snow at the end of the driveway, perfect place for our experiment. We dug a hole and putting the device about a foot into the snow we then lit the fuse, we soaked with lighter fluid a bit earlier. We stepped back about 10 feet then were blown back at least another 5 feet. It took us a few minutes to clear our heads and another hour or so for our ears to stop rining.

There was snow all over the side of the house and the windows in the garage door were gone. Marshall, Mr. Brooks , was to say the least not happy when they came home.

One of many adventures we shared. He was such a good and genuine person.
