Katie was enthusiastically attending Millersville University majoring in Elementary Education and hoping to minor in Spanish at the time of the accident. A week before Christmas Katie, her mother, their dog Alex and Mrs. Hostetter and Rebecca her daughter, were on Route 1 heading out to do some Christmas shopping. They were stopped at a red light when a dump truck failed to stop at the light and drove them into opposing traffic. Rebecca was killed instantly Alex the dog soon thereafter. Katie was taken to the hospital but was later pronounced brain dead. Her organs were donated and the day we laid her to rest a young woman left the hospital with a new chance at life. Katie's mother survived but suffered numerous injuries that still affect her today. Mrs. Hostetter was paralyzed. Katie was a bubbly, outgoing, thoughtful and loving person. Her friends and family were deeply moved by her giving spirit. She will forever be deeply missed. A scholarship at Avon Grove High School exists in her name.
