Phillip Walker (Fall 1959)

Mr. Phillip Dean "Phil" Walker, 78, of Seymour, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at home with chosen family and friends by his side. He was born in Indianapolis to the late Herbert M. and Edith Mae (Dailey) Walker.

Funeral services at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday, October 25 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Jeff Hood officiating. Burial will follow at First Marion Baptist Cemetery.

He was a member of First Marion Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Crothersville High School, class of 1959. He was the class Salutatorian. While in high school, he was involved in 4-H and FFA. He graduated with his undergraduate degree from Purdue and his Master's degree from Ball State University. While attending Purdue, he was a member of the Stellar Brothers Cooperative from Fall 1959 through Spring 1964.

On May 20, 1989, at First Marion Baptist Church, he married Glenna Miller with Revs. Bill Klakamp and Bill Cordes officiating.

He worked as a teacher for 12 years at Custer Baker Middle School, now known as Franklin Middle School. He loved to care for dogs and was a dog groomer for 37 years. He served in the Army ROTC in college, was a member of the bridge committee and helped get the run around on the bridge on US31, served on the American Baptist Relief team and traveled to New York after the terrorists attacks to help. He served at REMC for over 30 years as election committee chairman. He enjoyed hosting foreign exchange students in his home. He helped coach "Enter His Courts" Little League baseball and basketball.

Phil is survived by his wife, Glenna Walker; sons, Warren (Amy) Walker, Phillip "Chris" Walker (Jennifer White); grandchildren, Ashley (Patrick) Walker Easter, Jason Walker, Greg Walker, Mark Liles; foreign exchange students, Stefan Buntzen, Memee Manoopun. He was preceded in death by his parents
