Michael McCarthy

Michael Gregory McCarthy, 63, passed away November 1, 2015, in Wirtz, VA, formerly of Tolland, CT, and Jupiter, FL. Michael was born in San Angelo, TX and spent his early years in Nagoya, Japan and Thompsonville, CT, and then most of his grade school years in North Palm Beach, FL. He graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, FL, and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Georgetown University, graduating Cum Laude. He later received a Bachelor of Science in Information systems, an MBA, a Masters in Management Information Systems, and a PhD in Information Systems.  He worked his entire career for United Technologies, first with Pratt & Whitney in Jupiter, FL, and later in Hartford, CT, and ended his career at Carrier in Hartford, CT.
Michael retired to Wirtz, VA, in 2012 along with his wife, Joan, where he enjoyed growing organic vegetables, raising bees, playing his guitar, practicing yoga and enjoying nature.
Michael was known as a kind and gentle soul to all who knew him and will be deeply missed by his friends and family. Michael was predeceased by his mother, Joy A. McCarthy. He is survived by his father, Walter J. McCarthy; stepmother, Sandra N. McCarthy; loving wife, Joan Wilcenski McCarthy; devoted daughters, Megan McCarthy Di Carlo and Erin McCarthy; son-in-law Matthew Di Carlo as well as many of his daughters' friends, especially Alyssa Campo Carman and Carolyn Matthews; three sisters, Kathy McCarthy Delhaes, Judy McCarthy Hays, Sarah McCarthy White and their spouses, thirteen nieces and nephews and eight great nieces and nephews. Memorial donations can be made to the Moonshine Beekeeper's Association, Rocky Mount, VA.
