SUSAN KAY THURSTON age 71, born in Aurora IL, and a lifelong Downers Grove area resident, passed away Saturday, March 27th, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Russell H. Thurston; loving mother of Ryan (Anne Marie) Thurston and Stacey (George) Kanavos; devoted grandmother of Arabel and Calder Thurston, and Peter and Theo Kanavos; dear sister of Robert (Lynn) Bramscher; and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Downers Grove North High School in 1967 and Augustana College in 1971. She also received her Masters in Speech Therapy from Governers State University in 1987. Sue was a dedicated Speech Pathologist professional and spent her years up until retirement in 2010 working in the special education and elementary school districts in Lockport and Plainfield. What brought her the most joy was spending time with her family and most of all, her four grandchildren. Sue was selfless and generous with her time and love for others. She constantly demonstrated her love to family and friends by always passing along helpful articles, coupons and funny jokes that made everyone feel special. She loved shopping for old and new, admired and collected antiques and was truly committed to keeping the earth green through recycling. She also had an uproarious laugh that lit up any room which will be sorely missed. Her favorite sport was fishing which she loved doing each summer during annual family trips to northern Wisconsin for the past 40 years. For the past ten plus years, Susan was a part-time employee at Olde Timers Antique Centre and a passionate antique collector and dealer. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a service at 7:30 p.m. at Toon Funeral Home, 4920 Main Street, Downers Grove, IL 60515. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Heart Association would be appreciated
